Econ software is a small company based in Spain.
Most of my programs started off as very small and basic applications that I wrote for my own use to help speed up making calculations when working with Imperial measurement drawings when normally my crew would be working in metric, these programs became Econ Calculator Deluxe, MI Convert and Geometry Calculator. The base for Expenses I used to track my departments expenditure and return my float, after getting a request from a production person in Canada for a similar program I then made a few changes to it and this "home made" program then became Expenses.
I released the first couple of programs for free (See list below), MI Convert Light and Econ Calculator, these are both still available for free along with Displacement and Euro calculator, although these free versions are available for the Macintosh Classic OS only, if I maybe get the time....... someday, I will compile them for OSX. After the release of these free versions users started requesting more options and more enhancements, so as a hobby and also as a challenge (as my programming abilities where very limited), I improved on the interface, including most of the options, and enhancements users requested "yes there still coming in", I also added a registration interface with those programs that took more time to write and released them as shareware, mainly to try and cover some of my costs and time spent working on them. Revenue from the shareware sales goes towards any of the costs involved in writing them.
I used to think it must be great to be an application programmer and make such a good living from sitting in front of a computer and telling it what to do, well did I get my eyes opened up after entering the shareware market, it didn't take me long to realized that shareware can be dam hard work with not such a good return and very little, if no thanks at the end of it. I now know there are very few shareware programmers that can make a living from their program sales alone, and I tell you..... they deserve every penny of what they do make, so if you use any of their programs, then do the programmer and yourself a favor... pay them for the program, it helps keeps them in business and helps all of us computer users by supplying us with useful low cost programs.
I now spend my spare or hobby time working with php and MySQL building web databases sites, dynamic web sites or the database end of other web developers web sites, so along with my "real" job this now doesn't give me much free time to work on or update any of my Econ software programs, although I am determined to eventually upgrade Expenses, make a few changes to Econ Calculator Deluxe and hopefully compile a version of MI Convert and Geometry Calculator for OSX.
